Book Studies – Fiction – Horror
The course is one of a series of Book Studies offered by the Library and is usually scheduled for early Fall (August-October). Although there is no limit to the number of people who can participate, those who plan to do so are required to register for the course one week prior to the scheduled start date. Registration is available online via the Library’s website or in person at the front desk.
SPECIAL NOTE REGARDING PARTICIPATION
Contents of the book used in this study are mature and may not be suitable for everyone. Course discussions may include descriptions of graphic violence and other sensitive topics.
COURSE SUMMARY
This online course is a guided study of Stephen King’s classic novel The Shining. Participants will read the novel in five segments and complete tasks based on reflection and analysis. The course will primarily explore the themes and intricacies of the novel including examination of the film adaptation by Stanley Kubrick. Each reading segment is followed by a plot-check quiz, discussion prompts, and suggestions for further reading and activities.
